Our story
The short version
The Merry Meeple started with a simple idea: the best nights happen around a table. Good games, good drinks, good people. Phones down, dice out.
We're building a neighborhood spot in Bed-Stuy where anyone can walk in, try a new game, and stay as long as they want. The cover charge means there's no pressure to order more or leave faster. Your table is yours.
Never played a board game in your life? Great. Our staff knows every game on the shelf and will find the right one for your group. Coming alone? Our matchmaking board will help you find a table.
We also built an AI concierge that runs on every table. It knows the rules to every game in the library, recommends titles based on your group, and remembers what you liked last time. No other board game cafe has anything like it.
The humans
Founder
Former academic, former data scientist, knight, reverend, doctor. Founded the Meeple. Owns more board games than furniture. Built the Meeple's AI concierge, curates the library, and can tell you the optimal opening strategy for most of what's on the shelf. Has a fun fact for any situation.
General Manager
Runs the floor, the bar, and the kitchen. Knows how to pull a perfect espresso, pair a beer with your mood, and make sure every plate hits the table while it's still hot. The reason the food and drinks here are worth the trip on their own.
What we believe
Neighborhoods get stronger when people actually know each other. Robert Putnam called it social capital, and he spent decades showing that we've been losing it.
We think about that a lot. Sitting down with someone, learning a game together, trash-talking over a beer, laughing when your whole strategy collapses on turn six. Thirty minutes of that builds more trust than a year of following each other on Instagram. Games have been doing this for thousands of years. We just want to give Bed-Stuy a really good place to do it.
More people playing together makes the block a little better. We genuinely believe that. We also have really good coffee.
Come find us on Fulton Street. We saved you a seat.
